Magic. Monsters. Heart. Wit.

That’s what Erica Balfour writes — stories where ordinary people collide with extraordinary worlds. Stories filled with wonder, danger, and the courage to face the unknown.

Erica is a fantasy and science fiction author whose work blends sharp action with grounded, character‑driven emotion. She gravitates toward stories about unexpected heroes, fierce protectors, and the moment life slips sideways, revealing something magical or monstrous . . . often both. Her fiction has been recognized several times by the Writers of the Future Contest, including multiple Silver Honorable Mentions and one lonely Honorable Mention, as well as an Honorable Mention in the Writer’s Digest 93rd Annual Writing Competition.

Erica grew up loving books that made her feel something — wonder, fear, laughter, that jolt of adrenaline when you look up and realize it’s 3 a.m. and you definitely didn’t go to bed on time. She’s been chasing those feelings ever since. Her writing leans into the things she loves most: immersive worlds, flawed but deeply human characters, and the kind of humor that catches you by surprise in the midst of chaos.

Erica lives in Colorado, where the mountains are always calling and the weather changes its mind every five minutes. When she’s not writing, she can usually be found trail running with her dogs, searching for a 30-minute recipe that actually takes only 30 minutes (please help!), or hunting the perfect chile-infused beer.

If you enjoy fantasy or sci‑fi with heart, humor, and sharp edges — stories that balance danger with warmth and wonder — you’re in the right place.
